A day’s work ends not at “quitting time.” After a hard day’s work, one cannot just rush home and immediately sit back on the sofa with feet raised. After long hours of paper sorting, tedious analysis and hours more of report writing, the average worker cannot simply relax knowing that there are are still more things to done in the house.  Eight hours at the office is followed by more domestic tasks such as cleaning the living room, washing the dishes, or doing the laundry.  Being at home is just like doing another work shift, but this time, without the need to wear that tie or long-heeled pair of Prada.

There is, however, a great consolation to doing housework. Unlike being in the office, doing more work at home allows one to enjoy the benefits of being in the company of loved ones. As a bonus, a pet lover can also enjoy being with a congenial companion that helps one get over all the stress and anxiety at the office.  Having a pet, like having a family, can be a real stress-buster.

Medical studies show that petting an animal can act as anxiety relief.   Having a pet helps lower blood pressure and soothes the emotions after a hectic day.  The company of pets gives a person a state of serenity and relaxation.  Endorphins, the human hormone that kills pain, are easier released when a person enjoys the company of a pet animal.   Other research clearly prove that petting a dog can help reduce stress and anxiety.  The act of petting is not only comforting to the dog but for the owner as well.

Studies also say that dolphin vocalizations, or the sound being produced by these continental shelf dwellers, act as anxiety relief which can also lower blood pressures and induce calm thoughts.  These specialized dolphin organs located below their blow-holes can treat mild depression, psychological problems, and developmental disabilities. These carnivorous mammals that actually feed on squid and fish are not your usual household pets.  Still, they are used to conduct studies on animal-assisted therapy for human beings.  Dolphin vocalizations are now being fused to classical music to produce mind-relaxing audio in CD and DVD forms.

Bird songs are also natural anxiety relief as those sounds bring incomparable sense of calm to the listener. Listening to the chirping birds can also relieve one’s mind from stress and anxiety.  Psychiatrists and behavioral experts point out that petting such animals or listening to their natural sounds can be an effective way to promote emotional health and physical rejuvenation.

However, there are still some quarters that criticize the effectiveness of animal-assisted therapy. They say that therapy using animals are not as effective as taking anxiety medications. They contend that “there is still no compelling scientific evidence that proves that animal-assisted therapy is a legitimate therapy or just an answer to a fleeting mood.”

Science may not yet hold concrete proof of the benefits of animal-assisted therapy.  But it is important to know that millions have already benefited emotionally and physically by having a pet as a companion.  Still, no matter how tedious and tiring your office day was, having a relaxed moment with your family and pets should be considered as an alternative “therapeutic” method to promote one’s health.

Does male Andropause cause testosterone levels decrease with age? Research tells us that men tend to develop male Andropause more gradually than their female counterpart. Male Andropause can begin as early as the mid-twenties as men begin to lose male hormones including testosterone, thyroid, human growth hormone and DHEA. The aging process begins in earnest because of the loss of hormones.

Because female Andropause is so sudden, the effect of declining hormones is much more obvious. But these same effects in men are more gradual and over time are easier to accommodate, and as a result, they often don’t think to admit that they need help. For the most part, men don’t talk about Andropause. It’s not a manly thing to do. Between the ages of 35-45, men see a marked continual decline in keeping and maintaining erections. Ejaculation is not as powerful, and their stamina and endurance have waned as well.

What happens to men that treat male Andropause by replacing the male hormones? Here is a list of reported changes from men:

• Increase in mental quickness

• Improved enthusiasm for daily life

• Depression lifts that they didn’t know was there

• More energy and a desire to be more active

• Increase in sex drive demonstrated by night dreams, spontaneous erections and an overall increased interest in sex

• Improved muscle tone and reduced fat

Replacement treatments approximates the natural, endogenous production of the hormone. The average male produces 407 mg of testosterone per day. Several different types of replacements are currently sold including tablets, injectables, and transdermal systems. Anyone using this replacement therapy should be monitored by a physician regularly.

This therapy is contraindicated in men with carcinoma of the breast or prostate, as it may cause rapid growth of these tumors. Men with benign prostatic hypertrophy-related bladder outlet obstruction are also not candidates for this kind of replacement. Read this abstract for more detailed cautions.

Male Andropause can effect the levels of testosterone and as a result, the male sex drive. For more information, bookmark this page as a good testosterone source.

Benefits of drinking red wine regularly

It is a proven fact that wine has beneficial side effects on the heart, having some role in preventing heart disease. There have also been recent discoveries that indicate that drinking wine during pregnancy might not be as damaging to a growing fetus as previously believed. Some studies have also found that drinking wine in moderation also helped alleviate the damage caused by higher cholesterol levels. However, a newer study has also found that there may be even more side effects to wine drinking, particularly for women. A recent study conducted in Spain has found that wine can help lower the inflammation of blood vessels in women.

A Spanish research team, headed by Dr. Emilio Sacanella, reported his findings to the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. The study found that wine was capable of lowering levels of the various chemicals that cause the inflammation of blood vessels and arteries, which then have the effect of lowering the risk of heart disease. This is apart from the already-documented effects that red wine has. The study found that both white and red wine had this effect, though most tests reflected that red wine had a much more appreciable effect than white in the same period, given the same amounts.

A variety of studies have already found that heart disease risks are lowered by regularly drinking certain amounts of wine. The length and amount of wine varies, with some taking place over an extended period while others were more focused on the immediate effects. The Spanish research team conducted their study over a period of four weeks, with each test subject taking four glasses of wine per day. The results were observed and recorded over that period, though there was no indication of any effort being made to eliminate lifestyle factors. There were no test subjects taking heart medication during or prior to the test period, however.

However, Sacanella was quick to add that just because they had better heart health, it does not mean wine was the only factor in the results. The researchers have not yet eliminated other potential factors. Among these factors are exercise, diet, and habits. According to the study, any of them could have had as much of an effect on the results as the wine theoretically could have. Further study has been proposed to eliminate all possible factors to determine what, specifically, caused the benefits to occur.

Should wine prove to be the key to the results, there are already some theories as to how it came about. One of them involves the number of polyphenols in wine, which are known to have effects similar to the ones that have been observed by various studies. Theoretically, that would also explain why red wine has a more appreciable and noticeable effect than white, due to the higher polyphenol count and concentration in red wine as opposed to white. However, this is merely speculation at this point and researchers agree that further conjecture is not going to be of much use until it can be determined whether or not the decreased inflammation was caused by the wine, or by other factors.

Sleep my sons, your duty done…for freedom’s light has come.Sleep in the silent depths of the sea or in your bed of hollowed sod.Until you hear at dawn the low clear reveille of God.

The poem is inscribed on the monument to the Pacific War Dead, in Corregidor, Philippines. The huge dome-shaped Pacific War Memorial in Corregidor resembles a vintage World War II parachute, from the parallel lines running down the dome’s side to a hole right at its center. The memorial shrine was funded by the Americans and it is positioned in such a way that on May 6 of every year, the high noon sun that shines directly through the hole falls right straight in the middle of a round marble altar dedicated to fallen soldiers in the last war.

Corregidor comes from the Spanish word “corregir,” meaning to correct. One story states that due to the Spanish system wherein all ships entering Manila Bay were required to stop and have their documents checked and corrected, the island was called “Isla del Corregidor” (Island of the Correction). Another version claims that the island was used a penitentiary or correctional institution by the Spanish and came to be called “El Corregidor.”

In early and pre-hispanic times, it was likely populated by fishermen and no doubt provided a base for pirates who could easily launch an attack against any vessel entering Manila Bay. During the Spanish era, this tadpole-shaped island was a signal station where bonfires were lit to alert Manila of a homecoming galleons. Later on, Spaniards built a lighthouse on the island.

The big guns of Corregidor in 1941 were used in support of Filipino and American defenders of Bataan until the island itself was invaded by Japanese Forces. The restless pounding by Japanese guns including intermittent bombings reduced its defenses and compelled its surrender. On January 22, 1945, Corregidor was once again caught in the fury of war as the Americans retook the island after a bloody battle.

After more than 50 years, Filipinos, as well as American war veterans, still remember their history by heart about the fall of Corregidor to the Japanese.

However, not only did the Fall of Corregidor left a mark on the war veterans, wars also left them many serious problems and illnesses. Memory problems, chronic fatigue, depression, stress and other mysterious ailments and mental disorders are some of the issues that afflicted thousands of war veterans.

One significant problem that is common among war veterans is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). During World War I, PTSD was called “shell shock,” and on World War II, it was referred to as “combat fatigue.”  After the Vietnam War, it was often mistakenly called the Post Vietnam Syndrome. Indeed, the understanding and effective treatment of PTSD were actually described in the psychiatric literature well before the Vietnam War. A psychiatrist from Harvard Medical School, Dr. Eric Lindemann at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, was the first to report on the systematic management of PTSD. He did this work after the Coconut Grove fire and tragedy in the 1940s.

A significant number of soldiers suffer lingering distress from the trauma they endured while overseas. And the trauma can stay with them for the rest of their lives, preventing them from sleeping normally, facing large crowds, focus or commit in a relationship, or even looking at a simple garbage bag without worrying that a bomb might be hidden inside.

PTSD can be seen as an overwhelming of the body’s normal psychological defenses against stress. Thus, after the trauma, there is an abnormal function (dysfunction) of the normal defense systems, which results in certain symptoms. The symptoms are produced in three different ways: (1) re-experiencing the trauma, (2) persistent avoidance and (3) increased arousal.

Fortunately today, unlike 50 years ago, support is available for military personnel experiencing PTSD. Acting on lessons learned from World War II and other conflicts, the military and other government agencies of countries such as the United States have focused on early intervention of PTSD among active-duty soldiers. They offer counseling to prepare service members for overseas duty and send teams of chaplains and other mental health personnel into the field.

It is indeed comforting to know that the various methods of treatment for PTSD are highly effective. Moreover, there are trained clinicians experienced at handling the difficult problems of posttraumatic stress. But, of course, we hope that we will never have to experience a repeat of the appalling tragedy of non-sense fightings such as what transpired at the Fall of Corregidor.

The use of alternative back pain control methods

It isn’t exactly a rare scenario. A man, typically middle-aged, is seen busily working on something inside the house on a Saturday morning. The suddenly, he bends to pick up a tool from the floor. Earlier, he broke into a sweat while carrying sacks of cement and bricks that he’ll use to re-do the driveway. As he rises, he immediately senses the sharp pain on his waist and lower back. Not as young as he used to be, he ends up almost immobile from the waist down after hurting his back while doing something as ordinary as picking up an object from the floor. This scene is so common that it is even used as a common device in t.v. situation comedies and cartoons. But in real life, over stretching and lifting of heavy objects have been the reason for the need to buy all sorts of pain medications.

However, it isn’t simply manual labor or household mishaps that prompt someone to urgently need back pain relief. The reality is that there are several situations and occupations that have a higher tendency to cause undue stress on the back muscles, which would then necessitate the use of back pain relief treatments. Another possibility would be the natural “wear and tear” associated with aging. As we get older, our muscles slowly become thinner and our bones begin to brittle.

Back pain relief is hardly something that can be considered a specialized field, as most medications that relieve back pain are also used to relieve pain in other parts of the body. In particular, low-potency pain killers and muscle relaxants that target the entire central nervous system are among the most common ways to get back pain relief.

Aside from the Western medicine-style of prescribing pain killers, alternative methods of pain alleviation are now available. Once such alternative is called Acupuncture, the ancient Chinese art of sticking or puncturing the skin with needles for the purpose of restoring health or treating disease and pain. It has been used by the Chinese people as a back pain relief method since the 1340s, predating many Western medical practices on pain alleviation. According to acupuncture theory, illnesses are caused by an imbalance in a person’s yin and yang. Through acupuncture, the flow of internal energy or “chi” is regulated, allowing the critical balance of yin and yang to be restored. Regulation of the “chi” also includes the normalization of blood flow and other body fluids. Western medicine has yet to acknowledge acupuncture as a valid scientific treatment. However, recent research involving the use of neuro-imaging technology revealed that acupuncture does influence brain activities.

Aside from the use of needles, other pain killers and muscle relaxants have also been used for many years. Some pain relief medications come in cream and ointment form. Pain-relieving ointments and creams are easily absorbed through the skin above the painful body part. There are also tablets and pills for pain relief that are now readily available in the market.

Whether one chooses Western medical pain alleviation methods such as the use of a pain killer; or if you prefer alternative techniques like Chinese acupuncture — various ways and means to eliminate back pain will continue to be in high demand. As long as humans remain mortal, back pain — and back pain relief
products will form part of our every day life.

The drug maker Searle created ‘Anavar-Oxandrolone’ in 1964. It was developed as an exceptionally mild anabolic, which could even be securely used as a growth stimulant in children. Anavar-Oxandrolone does not aromatize, and thus the anabolic effect of the compound can really encourage linear growth. Women normally tolerate this drug easily at lower quantities. Formerly, Anavar-Oxandrolone was suggested for treating osteoporosis.

As the beliefs encompassing steroids started out changing in the 1980’s, prescriptions for Anavar-Oxandrolone got down. Dawdling sales perhaps led Searle to stop producing the drug in 1989, and it disappeared from U.S. pharmacies until recently. Anavar-Oxandrolone pills are again available within the United States by BTG, accepting the novel trademark ‘Oxandrin’. BTG purchased rights to the drug from Searle and it is now fabricated for the new reason of treating HIV/AIDS related wasting syndrome.

Its reduced androgenic activity is because of the fact that it is a dihydrotestosterone (DHT) derivative. It works advantageously for promoting force and duality muscle mass gains. Among muscle-builders it is frequently used during precontest preparation when water retention is a concern. Anavar-Oxandrolone has no effect upon the person’s natural hormonal production. Anavar-Oxandrolone has the profound quality of significantly stimulating synthesis of phosphocreatine in muscle fiber which in turn meliorates ATP fabrication and restoration.

The common fallouts linked with Anavar-Oxandrolone are liver toxicity similar, bloating, nausea, diarrhea, acne, deep voice, clitorial hypertrophy or increased growth of body hair. Anavar-Oxandrolone should not be taken for several consecutive months as it is 17-alpha alkylated and thus injurious to liver. The women who react sensitively to the consumption of anabolic steroids achieve good results when blending Oxandrolone/Primobolan pills and/or Clenbuterol, without suffering from the normal virilization symptoms.

Anavar-Oxandrolone is very popular, and put into many cycles where the user can afford it. It is also popular in stacks with drugs such as testosterone in addition to high anabolic/moderate androgenic steroids such as Equipoise or Nandrolones. For the precontest jock, Anavar-Oxandrolone is frequently used along with Masteron or Trenbolone, and Testosterone Propionate plus injectable Winstrol. Women often attain incredible results from 5-10mgs/day of oxandrolone alone.

The use of various drugs to help in the treatment and management of anxiety

Anxiety attacks are normal body reactions – coping mechanisms – against different stressors and distressing predicaments. In other words, these are chemical, physical and emotional reactions that are elicit by fear, apprehension, or shock.  These reactions also cause a  “fight or flight” response. Based on scientific studies, people automatically react to stress or stress-inducing activities by either making a confrontational stance or making a decision to avoid the stress.

Pressure can come from an emotional problem in a relationship at home, demanding tasks and deadlines at the office,  the dread of a forthcoming test, or the clamor for a game-winning performance in a championship game.  All these can product constant anguish and even anxiety attacks if a person is not able to cope effectively with the stress.  A person that is undergoing an anxiety attack often experiences a feeling of numbness or tingling, shortness of breath, dizziness, heightened palpitations, chronic sweating, chills, hot flushes, and  nausea.

Extreme levels of anxiety can produce serious ill effects on one’s physical and mental health.  Anxieties can actually a hinder or adversely affect a person’s the day-to-day activities.  Aside from the possibility of leaving a person emotionally depressed and physically weak, anxiety can also cause a person lose the ability to make a rational decision.  It is not uncommon to hear of cases of people with severe anxiety who have lost their jobs and failed in their relationships.  For these people who have become victims of anxiety attacks, life has become a mere matter of survival — bereft of happiness, fulfillment, and health.

Some people can cope with depression and anxiety.  But for a significant number of people who do not have the ability to cope with stress and anxiety, the only means to regain their life is to undergo therapy and, if necessary, take anxiety medications.  These anxiety medications, if accompanied by therapy conducted by professionals, offer relief and possibly permanent protection from the debilitating effects of stress and severe emotional distress.   Anxiety medications often vary in the dosage and desired effects.  However, what is common among these anti-anxiety medications is the ability of these drugs to  suppress unnecessary chemical and emotional surges.  Controlling these chemical and emotional surges allow a person with anxiety to regain a sense of peace and tranquility.

Anxiety medications, also known as anxiolytics, are prescribed to treat the different  symptoms of anxiety. For example, Bensodiazepines are prescribed to treat the short-term and disabling effects of anxiety.  These drugs are take effect in a person’s central nervous system, which is the reason why a certain degree of sedation occurs in a patient using the medication.  Non-bensodiazepines, however, are used to control the serotonin level in the body. Serotonin is essential to the body for regulating anger, temperature, mood, sleep, vomiting, sexuality, and appetite. Though they are proven to be less effective than bensodiazepines, the serotonin-regulating effect of this type of anti-anxiety drug also helps a person to achieve a relaxed state.

While these medications offer relief, people must still practice a little caution before taking these anti-anxiety drugs.  These drugs cannot totally remove all symptoms of anxiety.  Of course, these medications cannot resolve an emotional or psychological problem that is actually the origin or source of a person’s anxiety attacks.
